Focus and Productivity

Does it seem like all you do everyday is manage your e-mail? How does one stay focused and productive with this constant onslaught of tempting interuptions?

I just "googled" an excellent site, www.davecheong.com, with a number of interesting blog entries. Derivatives of his recommendations include:
  • Set a concrete goal for the day.
  • Start working on an important task right away.
  • Use "Timeboxing" - set a 1 hour time limit and do your "best" on a task
  • Write out a daily task list and plan your day.
  • Perhaps scan, but do not "do" your e-mail until later in the day.
