Quite simply:
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This is of course one of the many versions of the positive affirmation of the so called Golden Rule. For more details, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Rule Basically, you should treat/approach everyone with: Understanding, Compassion, Helpfulness, Empathy, Trustworthiness, Kindness, Generosity, Reliably, Caring, Forgiving, Non-judgmentally, Supportively, Interest, Fairness, Honesty, Patience, Thoughtfulness, Tolerance and Respectfully. The 4.5' 2017 Heineken Worlds Apart commercial nails it (See www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKggA9k8DKw). Let's go have a beer and chat!

Morgan Freeman to Jack Nicholson in The Bucket List (2007), a fair movie about two men dying of cancer living out their last days, while sitting on top of the Great Pyramid of Giza (1): You know, the ancient Egyptians had a beautiful belief about death. When their souls got to the entrance to heaven, the guards asked two questions. Their answers determined whether they were able to enter or not. ‘Have you found joy in your life?’ 'Has your life brought joy to others?' (1) I too climbed to the top the Great Pyramid of Giza (also called Cheops or Khufu and built between 2560-2540 BCE) in 1979 and watched the sunrise over Cairo, Egypt.

The thesis is that "the more people become dependent on government ... the less likely they are to vote for cutbacks." Many treat government handouts as entitlements and quickly become addicted to them to the point that many of the recent riots are responses to government efforts to reduce these entitlements.
